The entrepreneurs featured in the articles had a common line running through them: they cocked a snook at the system: Keep the reservation with you! We can offer you a few jobs!
Amazing how these guys would have made it. If you are not convinced, think of a situation where in you are not accepted by a group and get in touch with your feelings. Just expand that group to most of the society in your imagination and try to feel your being. Then you will know. .
This was little more special because of one more reason. One of the personalities featured was Mr. Gavai, who was a couple of years senior to me in HPCL and I only knew that he had resigned from HPCL to join some company in the middle east. I was very happy that he reached this state of being featured in the entrepreneur column of a highly respected news paper of India.
Just as I was feeling good, the news about shunning of dalits in our premier institutions came as a shock. Of course the article looked more like a provocative report but did not suggest any solutions. I feel most people, if properly led, can empathize with plight of these dalits and once empathy comes in, many issues are resolved! This would be more effective in the long run, as winning of hearts would be the best way of winning battles.
